Salome: Tears of the Goddess
Chapter 7

Teaser: This is a Logan comicverse story, more or less, that doesn't fit into continuity. It just has some characters in it that I wanted to have skulking around the X-mansion so I put them in there.

Some of the highlights include: Nightcrawler, Cyclops, Gambit, and Wolvie go to a mutant strip club; Logan does his impression of a chicken; X-men throw a b'day party for Logan; and lots of sexual tension between Logan and an original female character. Oh-yeah- also some butt-kicking action. My first attempt at it. Feedback would be much appreciated.

Note: The best lines in this story are taken from the Song of Solomon in the Old Testament.

"Maggie, you're going to have to do better than that, darlin.'"

They've been training outside on the grounds. She didn't want to be inside, she said. It was cold but the sun was out.

Logan was getting frustrated because she seemed more intent on goofing off than being serious. It didn't help that Jack was bounding around their feet, biting their ankles.

"It's too pretty today, Logan. I don't feel like it."

She bends down and takes a stick that Jack has been gnawing on, throws it for him.

"You're such a poo-poo head, sometimes." He starts laughing.

She's wearing jeans and a long-sleeved shirt. She throws her coat off and does a light two-step in the grass. She bends down and takes her shoes off, flinging them into the grass. Jack pounces on one of the shoes and darts off into the trees, the shoe dangling from his mouth.

"He's got your shoe, dummy."

"I don't care. Everything is so beautiful. It's so alive out here."

"It's the middle of winter."

"Exactly."

He shakes his head. He sits down heavily on the ground. He's enjoying how she's enjoying herself.

She squeals and starts to spin around, her arms flaring out from her sides. She pulls a veil from the air around her and begins to dance with it, letting her hair fall into her face. Then she spins it around over her head. She springs towards him and tosses it into the air between them so that it almost brushes his face.

"None of that, now. Why don't you settle down?" She flops into the grass beside him.

"Kiss me."

"No."

"Why not?"

"No time for that. We've got work to do.'

She lies down in the grass and chews on a blade. She flings her arms over her head and stretches.

"I'd rather roll around in this grass with you."

She leans over and pinches him on the butt. He jerks away from her, annoyed.

"Dammit, Maggie, quit messing around."

She was definitely serious about her training, but today she seemed to have the devil in her.

She throws a blade of grass at him.

"Do you still love Jean?"

"Sure, I love her."

"She's beautiful," she says. "Actually, I've never seen a better-looking bunch of people anywhere."

"Yup. Like you."

"I'm not anything like her."

"Yes, you are. A little. She's settled down a bit."

Suddenly, Logan springs on top of her. He pins both of arms down with his own.

"What are you doing?"

"You've got to be prepared for anything. Someone could come up on you at any time. I could have killed you in ten different ways. What are you going to do now?"

"Logan, I don't like this. Get off of me."

"How are you going to stop me?"

She flares. He's making her angry.

Logan feels his brain begin to burn. The pain is quick and intense.

He grips his head and cries out. She's bright now. She grabs his shoulders and flings him four feet away from her. She jumps to her feet just as he springs to his.

He lunges for her. She blocks two of his punches but takes the third to the head. It's a solid blow but it glances off her.

"You can't get a good grip on me, can you? No way for you to fling any brain trouble at me. And you can't hold out forever against my fists. Eventually, I'll wear you down."

"You think so."

He hears something hissing at his feet. The grass is alive with her luminous snake-like twists of energy. One of them clambers up his pant leg. In a moment, he's paralyzed with a sharp pleasure.

She springs at him and grabs his face, presses his mouth to his.

The shockwave is like a bolt of fire burning into his brain. She eases away from him. He recovers almost instantly. He looks down at his feet in the grass.

"Why snakes?" he says, rubbing his temples with his fingertips.

"I don't know. Why not?"

"You did well, darlin'."

"You still could have killed me, you know. I'm not as strong with the telepathy as Jean or the professor. My strength doesn't last forever."

"I know, but you still did good. You're getting better."

He leans over and kisses her lightly on the mouth.

"Are we done now?"

"Yup. We're done. My head hurts. Let's go inside. I'm hungry."

Magdalene whistles at Jack who bounces toward her, a slobbery shoe in his mouth.

"Ugh. I'll have to go barefoot."

They start to walk back toward the mansion. Her step is light. She is humming to herself.

"What are you humming?"

"I don't know the name of it."

"Sing a little of it for me."

"That's enough. Never heard it before. You can't sing."

"I know. That's why I was humming."

"Logan, are we dating? I mean am I your girlfriend or something? What are we?"

"What do you mean?"

"You know what I mean."

"You want to go steady with me, is that it?"

"Something like that."

He puts his arm around her shoulders.

"Darlin', why don't we just see how it goes."

"Why do you treat me like your little sister? I'm not a goddamn kid."

"Where did you get that mouth? You've got a trash mouth."

"Well, you do. Admit it."

He stops and turns to her, takes her face between his hands.

"Honey, I think about you in a lot of different ways. I have all kinds of feelings about you. But I definitely don't think of you as my kid sister. And, one day, I'll show you. When we're ready."

She smiles at him and punches him in the shoulder. He grins and punches her back.

"I'm starving," he says. "Let's go make a sandwich or something."

Magdalene runs upstairs to get another pair of shoes. When she comes down, Logan is sitting in front of the t.v., a sandwich in his hand.

"I'm just going to run and put Jack out back. He's rather fragrant."

"All right."

He settles into his chair. He's watching a re-run of the X-Files. He'd caught the show a few times over the years. It didn't seem to make a lot of sense. He'd solved a few mysteries in his days as an X-man, but this show had him completely mystified.

After twenty minutes, he begins to wonder where Maggie is. He gets up and goes to the back door. There's Jack, sleeping in the sun. He passes Rogue on the way back to the living room.

"You seen Maggie, darlin?"

"Nah...Ah haven't seen her."

Logan walks into the kitchen. She's not there. She's not anywhere on the first floor. He runs up the stairs. She's not in her room. She's not in his room, either. He runs into Kurt, tells her he can't find Maggie and he helps him look for her.

They look all over the mansion, calling her name. She's not in the house or on the grounds. Her room doesn't look like it's been touched since that morning.

She's not there.
