Author's note: I'm taking a huge liberty in technologies. Trust me. If I had it my way it would be too technical and barely readable - no punctuation or gist of feeling, but I'm thinking Ole Chuckles has the best of the best, and I figure y'all wanna know what I'm talking about. Rogue's accent disappeared once the computer translated the transcript, as did Logan's. Sorry. Use your imagination.




Scott always checked over the equipment the day after it was finished being used. It was almost a relaxing task, to be mindlessly going through the motions, alert enough to catch anomalies, but only just.

He kept a log, of course, a digitized transcript of the conversations that went on during missions. He wouldn't keep them forever, mind you. Maybe five or seven years - no longer than you keep tax records, really. It was a helpful learning tool, sometimes, to go back over what was said via the communications links. Find strengths, weaknesses - altogether normal things for him to do. After all, he was the leader, and in the end, responsible for them all. No one would get hurt because he could have done a better job, not now, not ever.

It was when he was checking over one such transcript that he finally noted a seemingly innocent anomaly in Rogue's communication log, timestamped five hours after the last communications.

For the longest time Scott sat in the war office, entranced.
