Because You Loved Me
Chapter 6: Maybe I Don't Know That Much, But I Know This Much Is True
by
QMan

"I can say nothing good about Logan, as a man." Cable said, "Because I never got to know him. All I saw was an unruly, ill-tempered little man. Not worthy of my time to get to know him."

"Nathan!" Xavier said, "Please have some respect!"

"I was getting to that, Charles." Cable replied, "But as a fighter, I've known none better. Logan would rush in where others would hesitate. He would put his body on the line, in fact his very life if necessary. He would take on any foe, no matter the odds. His courage and fortitude never wavered. As a man I passed on knowing him, as a fellow warrior, I am glad I was always on his side. His skill has always been unmatched and his passion unbridled. For this I salute him."

"I can't even say I admired him as a fighter." Emma said, "I never worked with the man. And I abhor the use of violence as a means to solve every problem. He does however inspire great loyalty. All of you down here are a testament to that. As is Jubilee. The sun rises and sets with her 'Wolvie.' I don't know what he did to make himself her hero, but I'm sure it was an unintentional side effect of him being who he is."

Hank came back while the conversation was going on and entered the Med Lab. He was showered and looked a little refreshed.

"Yes, I have noticed that as well." Bishop said, "And anyone who can get unadulterated loyalty from Jubilee had done something right."

"I agree." Emma said, "Jubilee builds walls around her heart so she can't get hurt. Logan is the only person I've seen who's been able to get in. He's been her reason for not giving up on more than one occasion. Because I know the effect he has on Jubilee, and because I know it's a good influence, I respect the man."

"I know this sounds absurd." Bishop said, "But of all the X-Men, I trusted Logan the most."

"You had a funny way of showing it." Bobby quipped.

"I'm a suspicious person by nature, paranoid by training." The tall black man said, "And I keep my emotions in tight check. But I tell you this, Logan I always trusted.

"Maybe it was how we have the same outlook on life. We both live by the creed, 'Don't trust anyone.' We're both loyal to a fault. I won't let anyone hurt those I love and I know Logan wouldn't either.

"So while Logan watched me and made sure I was okay, I left him alone. I knew he was dangerous, but not to the X-Men."

"So what's yah point Sugah?" Rogue asked.

"The point is that while I don't have a story to relate, I can tell you I've always trusted Logan because there was always something about him that excluded suspicion. And for a man like me to feel that way and admit it, that's saying a lot."
