The Warmth

Disclaimer: Like I said, Logan's mine. Fox can have all the rest, but Wolvie-boy is MINE. Don't even think about sending those lawyers. I have deployed land mines in the front yard for just such occasion.

Archive: i would be honored, only please let me know :)

Author's Notes: having returned from my trip with at least a little sanity left (after a ten hour bus ride, not much...) here is the result of all the think time on the road. hope it's not too incoherent. i noticed you guys have been majorly creative while i was gone, and i'll be scurrying about this week like a rabid gerbil trying to catch up. at least the muses are prospering :)

i watch you walk
like a candle through this washed out world.
i watch you burn
from a distance, dreaming how such warmth
would feel under my hands.
i have suffered too long this frostbite
and my skin is split and raw
except for these moments
when i look at you and thaw.

i feel the wind cut the bone
like the ghost vegeance of this city's soul.
i feel the rain drown the eyes
until all we see is filtered through the
tears we say we never shed.
i have gone too long without oxygen
and my mind is cold and numb
except for these moments
when i stand near you and breathe.

and listen when i say to you

don't let the world bring you down.
hold on to your warmth
not everyone in these godless streets
is sad, broken and cold.
not everyone is me.
hold on to your breath.
not everyone here is choking.
some claw through to the air.
some of them remember the blue sky.
and while you're up there can you describe to me
the sun?

i watch you smile
like a flower opening to the first sun
i hear you laugh
from a distance, imagining how such joy
would taste like in a kiss.
i have swallowed too long the bitter cup
and my tongue is parched and dry
except for these moments
when i drink you in.

i feel the night smother the sky
like death's cloak pressed over hope's face.
i feel the smoke sting the lungs
until all we breathe is filtered through the
hate we can't wash from our hands.
i have gone too long without faith
and my heart is worn and tired
except for these moments
when you make me believe.

and listen when i say to you

don't let the world bring you down.
hold on to your peace.
not everyone walking this razor-blade fence
is torn, bleeding, and hard.
not everyone is me.
hold on to your faith.
not everyone here is cynical.
some resist the poison.
some of them protect the inner child
and while you do, can you sing to me
the lullaby as well?

and i swear, you don't have to be afraid
to hold on to this things.
because as long as i live,
as long as i have strength
(and even i don't)
i will hold on to you,
because you are the sunshine in my life.
you are the warmth
